Appeared Near Dormitory on the 19th, Molested a Student and Fled
Looking Back at Previous 'Sexual Deviant Alerts' at Universities
Yonsei University's Sinchon campus has announced enhanced security measures after a series of incidents involving a naked man wearing a black mask appearing near the dormitories.
On August 21, Yonsei University announced through a dormitory notice the previous day that "an unauthorized outsider entered the dormitory zone, resulting in a safety-related incident." The university further stated, "To prevent recurrence and to create a safe living environment, the entrance leading to Ansan behind Muak 1 Dormitory will be temporarily closed." Yonsei University also announced plans to increase the brightness of walkway streetlights and to enhance patrol work.
Previously, at around 10:10 p.m. on August 19, a police report was filed stating that a man, naked and wearing a black mask, sexually assaulted a female Yonsei student in front of the dormitory.
The man approached the victim from behind near the dormitory, touched parts of her body, then immediately fled the scene, escaping into the forest path in the direction of Ansan adjacent to the campus.
Upon receiving the report, the police arrived on the scene and recorded the victim's statement regarding the incident. They are currently analyzing surveillance camera (CCTV) footage from the crime scene and surrounding areas. Given that the suspect escaped towards the forest trail right after the crime, the investigation is focusing on identifying his route and identity using CCTV and other evidence.
An official from the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul stated, "We are conducting an investigation, including securing CCTV footage." As soon as the suspect’s identity is confirmed, police plan to investigate the detailed circumstances of the crime.
According to police, on June 12 another incident occurred in which a man, naked and masked, forcibly molested a pedestrian on the Ansan Jarakkil trail. On July 21, a man in similar attire was found hiding in bushes near the Ansan Jarakkil trail and was reported by a passerby.
Police suspect that the same man was responsible for both previous incidents and the sexual assault on August 19. They are currently analyzing surveillance camera (CCTV) footage to identify the suspect. That afternoon, Lee Soonmyung, the chief of Seodaemun Police Station, visited the walking trail near Yonsei University’s Sinchon campus dormitories to inspect the site personally.
Previously, at Seoul’s Dongduk Women’s University, an incident occurred in which a man in his twenties walked around campus naked and filmed himself, leaving students in fear. In another case near Pusan National University, a man in his thirties was caught following five women, including female college students, and spraying liquid shoe polish on their stockings, clothes, or sneakers.
