SK hynix Denies Reports on New Semiconductor Plant in Japan, Says "Nothing Has Been Decided"
Response to Korea Exchange Disclosure Inquiry
SK hynix has issued an official statement saying that "nothing has been decided" regarding reports of a plan to build a large-scale memory semiconductor production plant (fab) in Japan.
On August 21, SK hynix responded to a disclosure inquiry from the Korea Exchange by stating, "We are considering various options, including the establishment of additional production bases, to strengthen the competitiveness of our memory business, but nothing has been finalized as of now."
This inquiry was prompted after some media outlets reported that SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won had visited Miyagi Prefecture in Japan to promote the construction of a memory semiconductor plant worth several trillion won.
The company added, "We will make an additional disclosure either at the time when specific details are finalized or within one month."

Previously, in February, the Nikkei (Nihon Keizai Shimbun) also reported the possibility that SK hynix was reviewing the construction of a fab in Japan, and speculation about investment in Japan has continued to surface.
