A Taiwanese tourist visiting Busan was able to recover 1.3 million won in cash and other valuables left in a taxi with the help of the police.
According to Yonhap News on August 20, a family of four from Taiwan visited the Songjeong Police Substation at 10 a.m. on August 19 and requested help, saying, "We left a wallet in a taxi but don't know the vehicle's license plate number."
The wallet contained 1.3 million won in cash for the family trip, along with other valuables. Officers at the Songjeong Police Substation communicated with the family using a smartphone translation app.
The police accompanied the family to the location where they had gotten out of the taxi. There was no CCTV at the scene. The officers checked footage from the black box of a nearby bus, which was believed to have been parked nearby, and were able to identify the taxi's license plate number and contact the driver.
At 11 a.m. the same day, the family was reunited with the wallet, with all cash and other valuables intact.
According to the police, the family expressed their gratitude to the officers, moved to tears with relief after recovering the wallet.
