Off-Duty Coast Guard Rescues Female Driver from Accident Vehicle During Early Morning Workout
Sergeant Seunghwan Park of the Mokpo Coast Guard Discovers Vehicle Crashed into Guardrail
Evacuates Panicked Driver, Preventing Secondary Accident
An off-duty coast guard officer who went out for an early morning workout discovered an accident vehicle that had stopped in the middle of the road, along with a driver in a state of panic. He quickly evacuated the driver to a safe area, thereby preventing a secondary accident.
According to the Mokpo Coast Guard on August 21, at approximately 5:20 a.m., Police Sergeant Seunghwan Park, a member of Patrol Vessel 3020, discovered a vehicle that had stopped after crashing into a guardrail on a road in Singi-dong, Yeosu, South Jeolla Province.
At the time, Sergeant Park was off duty and was reportedly traveling for his early morning exercise from his home in Yeosu.
The accident vehicle was stopped in the road with a severely damaged tire and a destroyed side. Sensing something was wrong, Sergeant Park immediately pulled over his own vehicle and approached the accident vehicle to check inside.
The car had apparently caused a single-vehicle accident by hitting the guardrail. Inside, a female driver was reportedly crouched down, extremely shocked by the impact.
Since the accident occurred before dawn, with darkness still lingering, the damaged vehicle remained in the road, creating a situation where any following vehicles might fail to detect it and cause a chain-reaction accident or a secondary collision.
Without delay, Sergeant Park instructed the female driver to exit the vehicle and guided her to a safe location on the roadside. When the local police, responding to the report, arrived at the scene, Park handed over responsibility for the driver and the accident and then left the site.
Although the accident was encountered by chance while Park was off duty, his quick judgment and initial response took the driver out of danger and reduced the risk of additional accidents that could have occurred during the early morning hours.
