L&K BioMed Secures Additional FDA Approval for Cervical Cage 'BluEX-C'... "Strengthening Global Competitiveness"
L&K BioMed, a company specializing in spinal implants, has received additional approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for new footprint sizes for its height-expandable cervical cage ‘BluEX-C.’ By reflecting clinical feedback from U.S. healthcare professionals and broadening the range of product choices, the company is expected to accelerate its strategy to penetrate the U.S. market.
On August 20, L&K BioMed announced that it had expanded the footprint size options for its existing height-expandable cervical cage ‘BluEX-C’ and obtained additional FDA approval.
The company applied for additional FDA clearance in July and, within about a month, received final approval on August 18 local time in the U.S. The core of this approval is that, while maintaining the height expansion functionality of the existing product, it widens the range of footprint options — which refers to the surface area of the cage in direct contact with the vertebral bone.
The ‘BluEX-C’ is designed to start at a height of 4 millimeters at the time of insertion and expand up to a maximum of 15 millimeters. With the addition of various footprint sizes, surgeons can now select both the height and surface area most suitable for the patient’s anatomical structure and surgical environment.
This product expansion reflects real clinical experiences and needs of U.S. surgeons. After using the ‘BluEX-C’ in surgeries, medical professionals communicated that more diverse footprint options were necessary to accommodate anatomical differences among patients and a variety of surgical situations. L&K BioMed responded by incorporating this feedback into product development.
The company expects that securing new sizes will provide healthcare professionals with more product choices and improve tailored surgical responses for patients. In particular, the offering of products with a wide range of adjustable heights and footprints at the same time is expected to serve as a differentiated competitive advantage in the global market.
Commercialization in the U.S. market is also gaining momentum. The ‘BluEX-C’ is currently registered with 14 hospitals and clients in the U.S., and actual surgeries using the product, with premium pricing applied, are ongoing. The company plans to gradually increase the number of hospitals adopting the product and supply volume while expanding initial clinical references.
A representative from L&K BioMed stated, “Product competitiveness driven by feedback from frontline healthcare professionals is proving successful even in global markets,” adding, “Since FDA approval, we have been seeing increased interest and contact from major global companies.”
The representative further commented, “Now that we can meet a wider variety of clinical needs with the new size options, we will expand local marketing and sales to translate this into actual sales performance and accelerate our strategy for the global cervical market.”
