Korea Advanced Materials Adds IonQ After IBM... Cross-Verification of Quantum Computers on 'KoreaQuantum'
Korea Advanced Materials (062970) has strengthened its verification system based on real quantum computers by adding IonQ's quantum computer to 'KoreaQuantum,' the enterprise quantum transition validation platform developed by its subsidiary, QuantumAI Solutions. By utilizing different types of quantum computers to compare results, the company aims to expand the platform into a solution that allows for the pre-verification of quantum computing adoption in industries such as manufacturing, logistics, and finance.
On August 20, Korea Advanced Materials announced that KoreaQuantum has established a cross-verification system using IonQ's trapped ion quantum computer, alongside IBM's existing superconducting quantum computer.
When a company inputs the work-related problem it seeks to solve into KoreaQuantum in natural language, artificial intelligence (AI) analyzes the potential for quantum technology application to that problem. The platform then automatically converts the actual work-related issue into an optimized model that can be processed by both a quantum computer and a classical computer and executes the task on each system respectively.
With the addition of IonQ, companies can now run the same problem on different types of quantum computers and compare the results. The results obtained from the quantum computers are also cross-checked with the optimal solutions identified by exhaustive search and those produced by conventional optimization engines.
The company explained that this system enables users to compare processing time, estimated costs, and solution efficiency with existing technologies before actually adopting quantum computers. In other words, the platform allows for pre-verification of whether the application of quantum technology in manufacturing, logistics, or finance would lead to tangible business benefits.
The platform has also ensured the verifiability of execution processes. Identification information for jobs processed on both IBM and IonQ quantum computers is recorded in automatically generated reports, making it possible for companies or external organizations to review the execution history and results from the actual quantum computers.
KoreaQuantum is also officially listed as part of the international quantum optimization benchmark, 'QOBLIB (Quantum Optimization Benchmarking Library).' The company has explained that it has repeatedly verified eight standard problems, producing optimal solutions for each, and has completed four rounds of public review.
Recently, the company also developed and open-sourced an official plugin for 'QUARK,' the international quantum application benchmark framework. External companies and research institutes can now directly reproduce and validate KoreaQuantum's problem transformation, algorithm execution, and result analysis process according to QUARK's standardized procedures.
The performance of its proprietary Quantum-inspired annealing engine has also been released. In evaluations applying the 'Q-score,' an international quantum optimization performance metric, it achieved a score above 512. The company also released information about the test conditions and the materials required to reproduce the results.
The company is also expanding the range of applications suitable for use in industrial workplaces. Currently, KoreaQuantum can be applied to logistics dispatch and delivery route optimization, manufacturing work scheduling, staff rostering, container loading, and portfolio optimization. Recently, new functions have also been added, including financial optimization for asset allocation and minimizing total processing time in manufacturing workflows.
Government policies are also providing a backdrop for business expansion, as initiatives are underway to promote quantum transition (QX) policies to move quantum technology beyond research and development and into real industrial settings. Predictions indicate that, as demand in the industrial sector grows for verifying the practical viability and economic value of quantum computing, utilization of pre-verification platforms such as KoreaQuantum will rise.
QuantumAI Solutions plans to expand its quantum transition pre-diagnosis and verification services, focusing on manufacturing, logistics, and finance. The company also intends to participate in government demonstration projects and the discovery of industry-specific quantum use cases, with a long-term goal of broadening its services into quantum-resistant cryptography (PQC) transition diagnostics.
An official from Korea Advanced Materials stated, "Based on an international benchmark and a verification system utilizing two types of real quantum computers, we will support companies in confirming the effectiveness and economic viability of quantum technology prior to adoption. We will continue to expand the application of quantum transition use cases in actual industrial fields such as manufacturing, logistics, and finance."
