Jeong Jeom-sik Invites Park Geun-hye to Party Workshop... Park Says "Will Consider It"
Jeong Jeom-sik, floor leader of the People Power Party, on August 19 invited former President Park Geun-hye to attend the party's National Assembly members' workshop. Former President Park responded, "I will consider it."
After visiting former President Park at her residence in Dalseong-gun, Daegu, earlier that morning, Jeong met with reporters and said, "I conveyed my wish for former President Park to personally attend the workshop being held on the 27th and 28th, and to share her valuable insights on the party's future direction."
This visit by floor leader Jeong was intended to express his gratitude to former President Park for participating in campaign rallies supporting the party during the 9th nationwide local elections. During the recent local election period, former President Park toured the Yeongnam and Chungcheong regions, giving her support to People Power Party candidates.
Jeong noted, "After former President Park was inaugurated, I was promoted in the first round of chief prosecutor appointments, and that September, I was appointed as the head of the taskforce for the motion to dissolve the Unified Progressive Party. She recalled these episodes and expressed that she felt I was extremely steadfast and had a strong sense of national security, offering me much encouragement."
He went on to say that, regarding her support on the local election campaign trail, "Former President Park said she helped because she could not bear to see conservatism collapse and hoped her support, however small, would help revive the party. Though we are now a minority party, she emphasized that if we unite to instill hope in the public, we will be able to win the support of many voters in the upcoming elections, highlighting the importance of party unity."
