Stray Kids Achieve Most Billboard No. 1 Albums Among 21st-Century Groups
'THIS & THAT' debuts at No. 38 on the singles chart
Sixth entry on the chart... The group's highest position yet
Nine consecutive No. 1 albums on the Billboard charts
The group Stray Kids has set new records on both of the main Billboard charts in the United States. With their new album, they achieved their ninth consecutive No. 1 on the 'Billboard 200,' setting the record for the most No. 1 albums by a 21st-century group. The album's title track of the same name reached No. 38 on the 'Hot 100,' marking the group's highest position on the chart to date.
According to JYP Entertainment and Billboard on August 19, the title track of Stray Kids' mini album 'THIS & THAT,' released on August 7, debuted at No. 38 on the Billboard 'Hot 100' chart for the week of August 22.
This marks the sixth time that Stray Kids has entered the 'Hot 100.' After first making the chart in November 2023 with 'Rock (樂),' the group has since charted with 'Lose My Breath,' 'Chk Chk Boom,' 'CEREMONY,' 'Do It,' and now 'THIS & THAT.'
In album charts, Stray Kids set a new milestone earlier. On the most recent chart released by Billboard on August 18 (local time), 'THIS & THAT' took the No. 1 position on the main album chart, the 'Billboard 200.' Stray Kids rewrote the record they already held by sending all of their first nine albums that entered this chart straight to No. 1.
Starting with 'ODDINARY' in 2022, Stray Kids reached No. 1 on the 'Billboard 200' with every subsequent album: 'MAXIDENT,' '★★★★★ (5-STAR),' '樂-STAR,' 'ATE,' 'HOP,' 'KARMA,' 'DO IT,' and now this new album. This pushed their record for the most No. 1 albums on the 'Billboard 200' by a 21st-century group to nine.
Stray Kids also topped the 'Artist 100.' This is the eighth time they have simultaneously swept both the 'Billboard 200' and the 'Artist 100.' The group also notched their ninth consecutive No. 1 on the 'Top Album Sales' and 'World Albums' charts, ranked No. 1 on 'Vinyl Albums,' and No. 4 on 'Digital Song Sales.' 'THIS & THAT' also reached No. 25 on the 'Billboard Global 200' and No. 15 on the 'Billboard Global Excl. U.S.'—in total, making entries in 17 different Billboard charts this week.
The new album contains eight tracks, including the title track of the same name. The production team 3RACHA, consisting of Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han, participated in the creation of all the tracks. According to Hanteo Chart, the album sold 3,289,269 copies in its first week, making it Stray Kids' fourth album to surpass three million copies in initial week sales.
The group also entered major international album charts. On the UK Official Charts, Stray Kids appeared on both the 'Official Albums Chart Top 100' and the 'Official Singles Chart Top 100.' They ranked No. 1 on France's Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP) Top Albums and the Netherlands' Album Top 100, No. 2 on Germany's Top 100 Albums, and No. 3 on Australia's ARIA Top 50 Albums.
Through their agency, Stray Kids commented, "As if destined, we've achieved our ninth 'Billboard 200' No. 1 in our ninth year since debut," and added, "Earning the record for the most No. 1s by a 21st-century group reminds us of the significance of being a K-pop group."
