Minister Choi Huieong Meets Governor Park Suhyun to Discuss Tourism and Cultural Cooperation
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that on August 18, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Huieong visited Chungcheongnam-do, where he inspected the status of the Ulchi exercise at the Gongju National Museum and met with Chungcheongnam-do Governor Park Suhyun to discuss regional issues.
Minister Choi reviewed the ongoing Ulchi exercise at the Gongju National Museum, which was conducted under scenarios such as wartime, incidents, or a national emergency. He scrutinized the step-by-step response procedures for swiftly and safely relocating key artifacts, including National Treasures. Encouraging those on site, Minister Choi emphasized, “Safeguarding our cultural heritage, which embodies our national identity, is a pillar of national security,” and urged everyone to further refine cultural asset evacuation plans to prepare for wartime situations through realistic training.

In particular, he highlighted the importance of Chungnam’s role in achieving the early target of 30 million inbound tourists, and requested close cooperation in developing tourism content that leverages the region’s unique characteristics.
Governor Park detailed major initiatives being promoted by Chungnam. He presented plans to build a sports and performance dome stadium in the Cheonan-Asan area, aiming to establish a cultural and sports hub for the central region, and introduced plans to expand stay-type tourism by staging regular nighttime performances utilizing the historical resources of the Baekje cultural area, including Gongju and Buyeo. He also requested the Ministry’s interest and support for managing Chungnam’s religious heritage assets.
