Homeplus Reopens: 43.7 Billion Won in Five Days, Up 191% from Pre-Suspension Sales
Sales Scale Expands by Nearly 2.9 Times
Homeplus announced on August 18 that its total sales over the five days since resuming operations reached 43.7 billion won.
This figure covers sales from August 13, the reopening day, to August 17. It marks a 191% increase compared to the sales of 15 billion won during the prior operating period from July 2 to 6 (Thursday to the following Monday), before the temporary closure. In terms of volume, sales more than doubled, expanding by approximately 2.9 times.
Average daily sales also rose significantly. From July 2 to 6, before the temporary closure, average daily sales were approximately 3 billion won. However, between August 13 and 17, after reopening, this figure soared to about 8.7 billion won per day.
The number of daily visitors also saw a substantial increase. From July 2 to 6, prior to the suspension, the average number of visitors per day was about 138,200, whereas from August 13 to 17, after reopening, it reached approximately 239,600—a sharp increase of nearly 74%.
A Homeplus representative stated, "We deeply appreciate the customers who have returned to Homeplus after the reopening, as well as our partner companies who continue to support us through challenging times." The representative added, "Above all, it was the dedication of our employees who did their utmost to serve customers and maintain normal operations, even during the reopening and holiday period, that made this achievement possible."
Meanwhile, the deadline for the approval of Homeplus's rehabilitation plan is September 4. By that date, Homeplus must demonstrate its viability by restoring sales.
