Suncheon City in the Jeonnam-Gwangju Unified Metropolitan City announced that it will take the lead in fostering regional mutual cooperation by purchasing admission tickets worth a total of 120 million won to support the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo.
On August 15, during a meeting with seven cities and counties in the eastern region of Jeonnam and Gwangju, the city agreed to strengthen joint development and inter-city cooperation within the eastern region. In support of the successful hosting of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo—the first international event since the launch of the Unified Metropolitan City—Suncheon participated in the group purchase of admission tickets.
The city plans to use the purchased tickets for on-site staff training and benchmarking of tourism content, and is actively promoting the expo. As a result of these efforts, the participation atmosphere in the local community is spreading, with related organizations, associations, and companies—including the Suncheon Childcare Association, NH Bank Suncheon Branch, and local industrial complexes—also joining in to purchase expo tickets, thereby contributing to the expo's success.
This initiative goes beyond a simple purchase of admission tickets; it embodies the spirit of win-win cooperation based on a shared understanding that the Gwangyang Bay Area forms a single living, economic, and tourism zone.
