On the 18th, Incheon International Airport Corporation announced that it had successfully wrapped up the ‘Tomorrow Road Hackathon 2026’, held in collaboration with KORAIL.

This competition was themed ‘Connecting Railway and Aviation Data: The Beginning of AI Service Ideas That People Can Experience’, and was designed to enhance travel convenience and discover new mobility service models using public data from the airport and railway sectors together with AI technology.

A total of 70 teams comprising university students and the general public from across the nation participated in the preliminaries. Among them, 12 teams advanced to the finals and presented their final ideas and service demonstrations over three days, from the 12th to the 14th, at the Aviation Training Center of Incheon International Airport. The participating teams proposed a variety of AI service ideas, including improvements to passenger mobility, smart mobility services, and personalized travel assistants.

As a result of the judging, the grand prizes were awarded to the ‘Deureuruk’ team (which developed a railway congestion prediction system based on luggage sounds) which received the President’s Award from Incheon International Airport Corporation, and the ‘Yeokmasal’ team (which developed a travel guide based on music preferences) which received the President’s Award from Korea Railroad Corporation. The outstanding teams earned a total of 12 prizes in various categories, including Grand Prize, Excellence Prize, and Encouragement Prize, along with a total prize fund of KRW 21 million.

In addition, during the event, the two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish the 'Social Overhead Capital (SOC) AI Innovation Council'. Through this council, they plan to explore ways to utilize public data, jointly introduce AI-based service models, and pursue commercialization of outstanding hackathon ideas in the future.

Beomho Kim, Acting President of Incheon International Airport Corporation, stated, “Airports and railways are key infrastructures that connect people's journeys. When we combine the data and AI technologies of both organizations, we can provide a more convenient travel experience from departure to arrival,” adding, “Based on the outstanding ideas discovered through this hackathon and the SOC AI Innovation Council, we will continue to expand innovations in AI services that the public needs and can truly appreciate.”
