Damyang Seniors Capture the Stories of Their Lives and Village on Camera
Senior Cultural Arts Program “Damyang Love Youth” Begins
Fiction Film in BongSan, Mini-Documentary in DaeDeok to Be Screened in November
In the BongSan and DaeDeok districts of Damyang County, a part of Jeonnam-Gwangju Special Metropolitan City, seniors are using cameras to document their lives and village memories. They are directly involved in every stage—from story development to filming and editing—creating both fiction films and documentaries.
According to Damyang County on August 18, the Damyang County Cultural Foundation will conduct the senior cultural arts education program “Damyang Love Youth” a total of ten times, every Tuesday from August 25 to November 3. The program is open to residents aged 65 and over.
The classes will be held separately at the Bongsan Culture Shelter and the Daedeok Unsu Daetong Village. In BongSan, participants will produce fiction films set against the backdrop of their village. The seniors will develop stories such as “Bongsan Detective Team” and “The Mailbox That Grants Wishes,” select roles, and take part in filming and editing.
In DaeDeok, participants will create a mini-documentary on the theme “DaeDeok I Love.” They will capture village scenery, the lives of residents, and long-standing memories through interviews and video. The curriculum also includes making movie posters using artificial intelligence (AI).
In November, the completed films will be screened at the DamBit Theater. Alongside the fiction film and mini-documentary, a making-of film documenting the production process will also be shown. After the screening, there will be a session for dialogue between the audience and participants.
