View original imageOn August 18, the Leeum Museum of Art announced that it will host "Idea Museum, After Tomorrow" at the auditorium lounge from September 5 to November 29. Supported by the Chanel Culture Fund, the Idea Museum is a project that has explored contemporary issues, such as the climate crisis, gender and diversity, and new ways of learning, based on inclusivity, diversity, equality, and accessibility.
This project revisits the key concepts surfaced over the past three years of lectures, workshops, symposiums, and screenings as "vocabulary." Rather than serving as a dictionary that fixes the meaning of words, it aims to be a "living lexicon" in the form of a wiki, where visitors can directly add or modify words. For example, "home" is reinterpreted as a place continually shaped by relationships, movement, and care, while "naturalness" is recast as a question of what has been defined as natural.
The lexicon was produced with the participation of Choi Seulgi and Choi Sungmin of the graphic design duo Sulki and Min, visual designer Kwon Sujin, and editor Lee Donghui. The exhibition space has been designed by Flora & Fauna, led by architect Lee Dami, and Studio Seokwoondong. In the auditorium lounge, several stations using sound, images, videos, texts, objects, and games have been arranged to allow visitors to experience the vocabulary visually, spatially, and physically.
On August 31 at 5 p.m., ahead of the opening, choreographer Ahn Eunme will present a performance titled "Molang Malang Muleong Muleong Guuuupan." The performance interprets vocabularies such as "Afro-Asia," "gender," and "diversity" through bodily movement. It will feature dancers from Ahn Eunme Company, Park Beomtae’s 12-string sangmo and samulnori, electronic music by NET GALA, as well as African and voguing dancers, weaving together Korean traditional performance, contemporary dance, and diverse styles of music and movement into a single performance. Visitors may also join as part of the procession. The opening performance is by invitation only.
Koo Jungyeon, Head of Educational Research at the Leeum Museum of Art, stated, "'Idea Museum, After Tomorrow' is not about drawing a single conclusion from the questions and practices accumulated over the past three years, but rather serves as a starting point for further discussions and collaborations. We hope it will become a platform where different languages and perspectives intersect and expand through the participation of visitors."
