Stray Kids Achieve Nine Consecutive No. 1s on Billboard Albums Chart, Second Only to The Beatles
Nine Consecutive No. 1 Albums on the Billboard 200
Tied Record with British Rock Band The Rolling Stones
Stray Kids have set a new record by topping the US Billboard main album chart with nine consecutive releases. By renewing their own Billboard chart record, they are now tied with the British rock band The Rolling Stones for the second-most No. 1 albums as a group in history.
According to Billboard and JYP Entertainment on August 18, Stray Kids' new mini-album "THIS & THAT," released on the 7th, debuted at No. 1 on the "Billboard 200" chart dated August 22. This marks the ninth time the group has reached the top of this chart.
Stray Kids have become the first artist to debut their first nine albums on the "Billboard 200" chart all at No. 1. Previously, with last year's album "DO IT," they set a record as the first artist to have their first eight entries top the chart, which has now been extended with the new album.
The group also achieved their highest-ever first-week album sales in the US. "THIS & THAT" recorded a total of 369,000 units, consisting of 357,000 album sales, 11,000 units from streaming-equivalent albums (SEA), and 1,000 digital track-equivalent albums (TEA). This represents about a 25% increase over their previous album "DO IT," which sold 295,000 units in its first week. "DO IT" also debuted at No. 1 on the "Billboard 200" last year.
The "Billboard 200" ranks albums by combining physical and digital sales with track downloads and streaming, all converted to album units. Stray Kids once again secured the majority of their total units from physical and digital sales. The Billboard chart is compiled based on US consumption data by music analytics company Luminate.
Stray Kids first claimed the No. 1 spot in 2022 with their mini-album "ODDINARY." Since then, every subsequent album — "MAXIDENT," "★★★★★ (5-STAR)," "ROCK-STAR," "ATE," "HOP," "KARMA," and "DO IT" — has debuted at the top of the chart upon release. When "ATE" earned the group their fifth No. 1 in 2024, they became the first group to have their first five entries debut at No. 1.
With this achievement, Stray Kids have now set a 21st-century group record with nine No. 1 albums on the "Billboard 200." Among all groups in chart history, The Beatles lead with nineteen No. 1 albums. The Rolling Stones have topped the "Billboard 200" with nine albums, which means Stray Kids have now matched The Rolling Stones for the total number of No. 1 albums on this chart.
The new album features eight tracks, including the title track "THIS & THAT," "RUN IT," "After You," "FARMING," "I Do," "Way Out," "Back Then," and the festival version of "THIS & THAT." The producing team 3RACHA, consisting of Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han, participated in the production of all tracks.
