Kim Seungsoo: "President Lee Fails to Seize Party Leadership... Abandon Plans to Withdraw Indictments"
Kim Seungsoo, People Power Party's Deputy Floor Leader for Parliament Management, commented on the Democratic Party's national convention on the 18th, stating, "In conclusion, President Lee Jae-myung's operation to seize control of the party has failed. The president is facing the twilight of his power only one year into his administration." He urged, "Abandon judicial destruction and attempts to evade trials, such as pushing for prosecutorial withdrawal."
Deputy Floor Leader Kim made these remarks at a parliamentary countermeasure meeting held earlier in the morning, saying, "President Lee and the pro-Lee Jae-myung faction attempted to use this Democratic Party convention as a preemptive measure to seek prosecutorial withdrawal or dismissal, but Representative Kim Minseok and the president's loyalist system are starting their terms with wounded leadership."
Regarding the election results, with the pro-Lee Minseok Kim winning the party leadership, Deputy Floor Leader Kim stated, "Although the president offered overt support, the race was extremely close outside of Honam, and had the president not targeted Honam with the semiconductor cluster announcement timed exactly for the convention, the outcome could have been different." He also added, "In the Supreme Council election, all three pro-Jeong Cheongrae candidates joined the leadership, while Kim Yong, one of the president's closest allies, ended up being defeated despite a last-minute push."
Furthermore, Deputy Floor Leader Kim said, "According to various polls, the president's approval rating has entered a dead cross, and the pro-Lee faction has neither succeeded in ousting the so-called 'Moon-Jo-Tor-Lae-Yu' group (referring disparagingly to former President Moon Jae-in, former Innovation Party leader Cho Kuk, Ttaengi Ilbo publisher Kim Eo-jun, former Democratic Party leader Jeong Cheongrae, and former Assemblyman Yoo Si-min) nor has it seized party control. The president is now facing the twilight of his power only one year into his term," he reiterated.

Deputy Floor Leader Kim said, "The more (President Lee) desperately tries to escape legal accountability, the faster public judgment will come upon him." He continued, "I hope that Representative Minseok Kim will also abandon his pledges for the impeachment of Supreme Court Chief Justice Jo Hee-dae and prosecutorial withdrawal made for the sake of victory. I urge the ruling party to follow the will of the people."
