Franklin Templeton Appoints Rene Buehlmann as New Head of Asia-Pacific
Brings Experience from Aberdeen Investments and UBS
Securing Growth Drivers for Regional Business Expansion
Global asset management firm Franklin Templeton announced on August 18 that it has appointed Rene Buehlmann as the new Head of Asia-Pacific, effective September 21.
Buehlmann is an expert with experience in Switzerland, the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, and other regions. He has demonstrated leadership for over 35 years in wealth management, asset management, and banking. Franklin Templeton employs over 2,600 people across the Asia-Pacific region and has established a strong presence in key markets such as Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Japan, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Australia.
Most recently, Buehlmann provided advisory services at KKR, evaluating strategic acquisition opportunities in the wealth management and asset management industry. Previously, he was the Global CEO of Aberdeen Investments, where he led the global investment business and managed the Asia-Pacific operations. Before joining Aberdeen Investments, he spent nearly 30 years at UBS, including 15 years in the Asia-Pacific region. During his tenure at UBS, he held several senior positions in wealth management and asset management, serving as Head of Asset Management Asia Pacific and a member of the regional Executive Committee.
In addition, Buehlmann holds a TRIUM Global Executive MBA jointly awarded by New York University (NYU), the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and HEC Paris School of Management. He is a Swiss Federal Certified Banking Expert and has completed executive programs at IMD (International Institute for Management Development) and Columbia Business School.
Going forward, Buehlmann will oversee Franklin Templeton's regional business across major Asia-Pacific markets. Specifically, he will lead the company's strategic growth plans, client management, and overall business development in the region.
