"Help Name Fu Bao's Baby Panda Sibling"… Everland Launches Naming Vote
10,000 Name Suggestions Submitted for Baby Panda
Nationwide Public Voting Event to Decide the Final Name
Generous Prizes Await Voting Participants
An online and offline voting campaign has begun to choose the name of the baby panda, now 77 days old, born at Everland Panda World.
Everland, the resort division of Samsung C&T Corporation, announced that it will hold a nationwide event to determine the name of the panda family's fourth baby panda through voting, running from August 18 to August 30.
In the first round held on the company’s online channel last month, more than 10,000 comments were submitted with name suggestions for the baby panda, drawing significant attention.
Everland carefully selected five finalists from the many cherished names submitted by customers through a naming selection committee composed of zookeepers, veterinarians, and relevant department staff. These finalists will go to the final vote.
During the review, criteria such as suitability with the baby panda, significance of the name, and ease of pronunciation were considered comprehensively.
The five final candidates, all using the family syllable “Bao (寶),” each carry special meanings: “Zhubao (珠寶, a beloved treasure as precious as pearls or gems),” “Junbao (俊寶, an outstanding and handsome treasure),” “Linbao (琳寶, a precious treasure like beautiful jade),” “Youbao (佑寶, a treasure protected and blessed by everyone),” and “Shubao (曙寶, a bright treasure like the dawn light).”
The voting event is open to all and will be conducted both online through the Everland App and offline at Panda World until August 30. The final name will be announced in September when the baby panda turns 100 days old.
Everland has prepared a variety of generous gifts for participants. A total of 21 winners among online event participants will be selected to receive prizes such as a trip to a panda base in China, an invitation to the baby panda’s 100-day celebration, goods featuring the baby panda's footprints, and Everland admission tickets.
The Chinese Embassy in Korea is also hosting a baby panda naming event on its social media channels.
Meanwhile, the baby panda, who was born at 10:53 a.m. on June 3 to mother Ai Bao and father Le Bao at Everland Panda World, is the fourth female giant panda born in Korea, following her older sisters Fu Bao (2020) and twin pandas Rui Bao and Hui Bao (2023).
Having recently passed the two-month milestone, the baby panda’s health checkup showed her weight at approximately 3.7kg, more than 20 times her birth weight of 171g, affirming her healthy growth.
The baby panda’s growth story can be followed in detail through Everland and Ppupa TV YouTube channels, blogs, and the Zootopia Naver Cafe.
