Bus Stop Names for Sale... 129 Ulsan City Bus Stops Available
Company Names to Appear on Bus Stop Signs and Announcements for Three Years
Ulsan City will sell the naming rights of city bus stops to private companies for a fee.
This initiative allows company names to be added to public bus stop facilities in exchange for compensation, providing businesses with local promotional opportunities while the city generates non-tax revenue.
Ulsan City announced that from September 14 to 16, it will recruit bidders for the "2026 Paid Naming Rights Sale for City Bus Stops" project.
The bus stops for sale are 129 locations equipped with shelter structures in commercial areas such as Hakseong-ro, Jungang-ro, Samsan-ro, Hwabong-ro, and Guyeong-ro. The city is targeting private sector advertising demand by focusing mainly on stops in established commercial districts.
Companies wishing to participate must submit their bidding documents in person at the Public Transit Department on the 4th floor of Annex 1 at Ulsan City Hall from 9 a.m. on September 14 until 5 p.m. on September 16.
Among businesses proposing the highest amount for each stop based on the minimum bid price, the final candidate will be selected after review by the Ulsan City Public Transit Improvement Committee. The selected business will be allowed to display its company name alongside the stop name for three years.
The company name will be shown on bus stop signs, route guides, and shelter signage, as well as announced in bus audio guides. This structure exposes citizens using the bus stops to repeated mention of company names.
Ulsan City plans to reinvest the revenue generated from naming rights into improving the facilities, such as updating bus stop signs. This model links advertising demand to funding for public facility management.
The project was first proposed in 2019 by a Ulsan City public officials' research group. Based on this idea, Ulsan City became the first in the country to implement such a program in 2020. In the same year, it was recognized as an outstanding policy at the Local Fiscal Best Practices Presentation and received a Prime Minister's institutional commendation. In 2021, it placed third in Ulsan City's Active Administration Project Evaluation.
From 2021 to the present, Ulsan City has sold naming rights for 26 bus stops, generating a total profit of 615 million won. This demonstrates how the city has secured actual non-tax revenue through bus stop naming rights sales.
