The Ministry of SMEs and Startups announced on the 18th that Deputy Minister Lee Byungkwon visited traditional markets in the Gyeongnam region that suffered damage from record-breaking heavy rainfall, conducted on-site inspections, and initiated support measures for prompt recovery and restoration of daily life for merchants.
On this day, Deputy Minister Lee visited Gohyeon Market in Geoje and Seoho Market in Tongyeong, both of which were affected by the heavy rain, to inspect flood damage and recovery status, and to listen to the difficulties and concerns of the affected merchants at the scene.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups has established and is operating a close collaboration system with local governments, the regional offices of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and the Small Enterprise and Market Service to promptly grasp the damage and recovery status and to ensure that support for the affected merchants proceeds without delay.
To further prevent safety accidents related to electricity and gas due to flooding, safety inspections have been requested from Korea Electric Power Corporation and other agencies, and the Ministry plans to quickly support the restoration of electrical and gas facilities in the traditional markets that experienced flooding. In addition, the Ministry will operate a one-stop support center for recovery efforts and provide financial assistance such as government policy funds and guarantees to help traditional market small business owners normalize their business operations.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will also introduce a new safety inspection system for traditional markets through specialized agencies to prepare for flood damage. After identifying markets vulnerable to flooding, the Ministry plans to link and support the traditional market safety management package project to proactively respond to heavy rainfall during the summer season. Deputy Minister Lee stated, "We will closely cooperate with relevant ministries, local governments, and related organizations to support swift recovery efforts so that traditional market merchants affected by the heavy rain can return to their livelihoods as soon as possible."
