Shinsegae DF Establishes 'Vision AI Safety Network' at Duty Free Store and Logistics Center
AI Detects Hazards on CCTV to Enable Preventive Safety Management
Expanding Safety Measures from Myeong-dong Store Customers to Logistics Center Workers
Shinsegae DF announced on the 18th that it has established a 'vision AI-based safety management system' at the Shinsegae Duty Free Myeong-dong branch and the integrated logistics center at Incheon Airport. The goal is to move away from the traditional model where humans monitor CCTV footage and respond after an accident occurs, enabling AI to detect dangerous situations in advance and prevent accidents.
The system works by having AI analyze CCTV footage in real time to detect incidents such as customers collapsing or engaging in hazardous behavior, and then notifying monitoring personnel. When the vision AI detects an abnormal situation, a Vision Language Model (VLM) conducts further analysis of the context and actions to determine whether the event genuinely requires a response. This approach helps reduce false alarms and supports prompt response from surveillance personnel.
At the Myeong-dong branch, the system detects risks such as moving in the opposite direction on an escalator, entry with a stroller, or riding without holding the handle of a suitcase. If a dangerous situation occurs, it coordinates an announcement, warning floor lights, and audio guidance, and also supports security personnel with initial response in the event of a customer collapsing. The system also analyzes crowd density in main pathways to identify congestion early on.
At the integrated logistics center, the system detects in real time whether the two-person operation rule is being followed by forklift operators and signalers, as well as hazardous vehicle operations. By expanding AI-based safety management coverage beyond retail spaces to logistics sites where goods are received and dispatched, the company has broadened the scope of its safety measures.
Shinsegae DF has previously strengthened its safety management framework by operating 'S-DRI' and a 'smart electrical fire prevention system.' With the introduction of this new system, the company aims to enhance its preventive safety management by detecting and responding to risks before accidents occur.
