Jongno-gu to Operate Four "Senior Companion Stores" as Age-Friendly Spaces
Discounts and Facility Upgrades Offered at Cafes, Workshops, and Hair Salons
Jongno-gu, Seoul (Mayor Yoo Chanjong), announced on the 18th that it will participate in Seoul City's "Senior Companion Stores" initiative by designating four establishments within the district—including cafes, workshops, and hair salons—as age-friendly spaces for senior citizens. The program will run from August 17, 2026, to July 31, 2027.

The four participating establishments were selected through a Seoul City public competition.
The "Yeok" workshop in Buam-dong is offering a 5% discount on class fees, while "Lotus" cafe in Samcheong-dong is providing a 10% discount on beverages. "Hollys" cafe in Muak-dong is offering a 5% discount on beverages, and "Mideum Hair Salon" in Gahoe-dong is reducing haircut fees by 2,000 won.
Jongno-gu will provide each store with 1 million won for facility improvements. Of this amount, at least half (500,000 won) must be spent on creating a senior-friendly environment. Eligible improvements include installing non-slip flooring, simple ramps, safety handles in restrooms, stands for magnifying glasses, holders for canes, and large-print information signage. The remaining funds can be used for purchasing business supplies and equipment.
Participating stores will display a "Companion Store" sign at the entrance to indicate their status as age-friendly spaces. Establishments recognized for outstanding performance by the end of the year will receive an additional 1 million won for further facility improvements. Jongno-gu plans to expand the number of participating stores after reviewing the program's outcomes when it concludes in July 2027.
