Chairman Jo Jeongsik Urges New Leader Kim Minseok to Foster a Culture of Coexistence and Cooperation
On August 17, National Assembly Chairman Jo Jeong-sik congratulated the newly appointed leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Min-seok, and the new leadership team, stating, "Given the significant responsibilities you have taken on with the trust of party members and the public, I expect that you will exercise responsible leadership that meets the demands of this changing era."
Chairman Jo wrote on his social networking service (SNS) account that day, "Currently, the Republic of Korea faces the daunting tasks of overcoming both internal and external crises and stabilizing the livelihoods of its people," expressing his above sentiments.
He added, "I trust that the ruling party, as the central pillar of state governance, will closely examine the lives of the people and become a reliable partner leading the nation's new leap forward," and emphasized, "When it comes to people's livelihoods and the national interest, there can be no division between the ruling and opposition parties."
He continued, "I ask that the new leadership take the lead in establishing a dignified parliamentary democracy based on dialogue and compromise, and in fostering a political culture of coexistence and cooperation," adding, "Furthermore, I hope both the ruling and opposition parties will work together to draw up a national blueprint for future generations."
Chairman Jo stated, "As Speaker of the National Assembly, I will spare no effort in communication and cooperation so that the National Assembly can once again be the House of the People that inspires trust and hope."

On the same day, Kim, the newly appointed leader, was elected at the 3rd Regular National Party Members Convention (Party Convention) held at DCC Daejeon Convention Center in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, by securing a final vote share of 54.08%. He defeated candidate Jung Cheongrae, who garnered 45.92% of the votes. The newly elected top council members, in order, were representatives Choi Minhee, Park Sunwon, Seo Mihwa, Lee Seongyun, and Han Minsoo.
