View original imageAccording to industry sources on August 17, KT plans to nurture more than 500 FDEs within the next two years. FDEs are engineers who directly identify customer companies’ work environments and challenges on-site based on data and business insights, and lead the entire AX project process — from proposal and implementation to operation. KT is deploying FDEs in field locations such as university hospitals, where it is difficult to transfer data externally due to security concerns.
The initiative to nurture FDEs stems from the judgment that ‘on-site execution capability’, which involves understanding and delivering results in customers’ industrial contexts in the AI era, is essential. Industry and domain experts, along with AI, data, and cloud professionals, are deployed onsite as one team. Using real-world data, they design solutions, conduct field validation, and develop minimum viable products (MVPs), thereby realizing actual services.

Recently, KT has assessed the industrial, technical, and solution capabilities of all employees in its AX business division and, based on the results, designed individual career development pathways (CDPs). The company is operating a talent development system that links education, project experience, and certification. Support is provided so that employees can gain hands-on experience throughout the entire process — from problem definition to MVP realization and making proposals to customers — through scenario-based training, project-based on-the-job training (OJT), and expert mentoring. In partnership with global big tech companies such as Microsoft (MS), Amazon Web Services (AWS), and Databricks, KT plans to incorporate the latest AI and cloud technologies, as well as industry-specific application cases, into its training programs.
