On August 16, the Democratic Party elected Assemblyman Kim Youngbae (Seongbuk-gap, Seoul) as the new Chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter at its 3rd Regular Party Members’ Convention held at Kintex in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman referenced the Democratic Party’s defeat in the most recent Seoul mayoral election and pledged, “I will make sure that Seoul never faces defeat again, and that the forces of insurrection will never be allowed a path in this city.”

He also proposed establishing the following bodies: a Special Response Headquarters for Seoul Municipal Affairs, a Youth Special Headquarters for the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter, and a Policy Research Institute for the Seoul Metropolitan Chapter. He stressed, “We will prepare for the upcoming general election and a possible repeat of the Seoul mayoral by-election.”
