Kim, Song, and Chung Clash at Democratic Party Gyeonggi Joint Rally, Appeal for Support
Supreme Council Candidates Also Continue Factional Strife
Kim Minseok, Song Younggil, and Chung Cheongrae, candidates for the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, appealed for support at the joint rally in Gyeonggi Province on the 16th, making regional economic development and peace on the Korean Peninsula their main campaign themes.
Candidate Kim pledged to address key regional issues, including semiconductors. He named three major tasks for Gyeonggi Province: "Leading the future and the world with semiconductors, spearheading reform in Korea and globally through innovative policies such as basic income and regional currencies, and normalizing the northern border regions of Gyeonggi Province." He emphasized, "If I become the party leader, I will provide full support to Gyeonggi Province and Governor Choo Mi-ae to accomplish these tasks."

He said, "No matter how much we achieve economic growth or build a strong nation in artificial intelligence, if inter-Korean relations falter, what good will it be?" He added, "I will work together with President Lee Jaemyung to accomplish the roles that Kim Daejung, Roh Moo-hyun, and Moon Jae-in could not finish." He continued, "I will lead efforts to successfully organize a North Korea-U.S. summit and become a frontrunner in overcoming the Cold War situation on the Korean Peninsula."
Candidate Chung addressed his significant defeat to Candidate Kim in the Honam region the previous day, saying, "A farmer does not blame the field," and added, "I will continue moving forward, using the tears of my comrades as my straw sandals." He also pledged, "To stabilize the real estate market in the Seoul metropolitan area, I will urgently devise supply measures and first normalize the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH)."

The candidates for the Supreme Council also continued their factional disputes on the same day. Park Sunwon, a pro-Lee Jaemyung candidate, criticized, "Despite the Democratic Party’s myth of invincible victories in the 2024 general election and the 2025 presidential election, the outdated leadership is leaving us unstable and insecure." In contrast, Han Minsoo, a pro-Chung Cheongrae candidate, targeted Candidate Kim Minseok, appealing, "Please judge those who advocate anti-Lee Jaemyung sentiment, divisionism, and Shincheonji."
