Putin Sends Liberation Day Message to Kim Jong Un: "North Korea-Russia Ties at Unprecedented High"
"Active Cooperation in All Areas... Joint Efforts for Regional Security and Stability"
Relations Strengthened Through Military Cooperation After Signing the Strategic Partnership Treaty in 2024
On the occasion of Liberation Day, Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory message to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, stating on the 15th that the two countries have reached an "unprecedentedly high level of comprehensive strategic partnership."
According to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti, in the message released by the Kremlin on the 15th, President Putin said, "Our countries are actively cooperating in all areas and are working together to ensure regional security and stability."
He went on to say, "We will continue constructive joint efforts to address urgent issues both between our countries and within the international community," emphasizing that "this is for establishing a fairer and truly democratic world order for the well-being of our peoples."
President Putin cited the history of fighting together against Japanese colonial rule as the foundation for current North Korea-Russia cooperation, in light of Liberation Day. He mentioned the struggle of Korean patriots and Soviet soldiers at that time, claiming, "The tradition of camaraderie and mutual support has become the basis for the development of friendly and good-neighborly relations between Russia and North Korea."
North Korea and Russia have been strengthening their cooperation since signing the "Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" at the Pyongyang summit in June last year. In particular, in the military field, they have developed their relationship into a de facto security alliance by signing a mutual defense pact.
North Korea dispatched troops to support Russia's war in Ukraine last year, and there are reports that additional troop deployments are being prepared this year.
