SAMG Entertainment Achieves Record First-Half Sales of 75.1 Billion Won... Overseas Revenue Surges 62%
Global intellectual property (IP) content company SAMG Entertainment continued its sales growth in the first half of this year. Despite making preliminary investments to expand overseas operations and nurture new IPs, the company secured increases in both revenue and operating profit, raising expectations for continued growth in the second half of the year.
On August 14, SAMG Entertainment announced that its consolidated sales for the first half of 2026 reached 75.1 billion won, up 5.6% year-on-year. This marks its highest-ever first-half performance, following last year's record annual sales. Operating profit reached approximately 6 billion won.
In particular, overseas business showed remarkable growth. Overseas sales in the first half rose 62.3% year-on-year to 30.2 billion won. The proportion of overseas sales in total revenue also increased to about 40%.
In China, the company is in discussions for distributing two feature films, is preparing to launch the 'TheTiNiPing' online store, and is getting ready for pre-sale of 'MetalCardBot' Season 3 toys. In Japan, the release of the feature film 'Hachuping of Love' is confirmed, and the company is promoting the local rollout of MetalCardBot and WishCat.
In Russia, 'MetalCardBot Season 2' ranked second in viewership on state-owned television. The company plans to release toys following the airing of Season 3 in September. In Taiwan, local adaptation efforts are underway for 'Catch! TinyPing' and 'MetalCardBot.' In North America, SAMG Entertainment is pushing for the distribution of globally recognized IPs and the introduction of TinyPing merchandise.
Operating profit for the first half declined year-on-year. The company explained that this was due to significant upfront investments for new IP development, further entry into the global market, and expansion of its business categories. Indeed, first-half revenue accounts for about 53% of last year's annual sales of 141.3 billion won.
For the second half, the company expects performance to improve with feature films and new IP releases. 'Hachuping of Love: The Legend of the Whale Jewel,' which premiered on August 5, surpassed 500,000 viewers within 10 days of release. As the opening quarter revenue of the first installment increased 54.7% year-on-year and fourth-quarter revenue rose 21.5%, the box office performance of this feature film is expected to be a major variable for the company’s performance in the second half of the year.
Efforts are also underway to broaden the target audience for its IPs. The flagship store ‘TheTiNiPing Seongsu’ attracts an average of around 13,000 visitors each month, while the proportion of active members aged 18 to 34 on the company’s online store has climbed to approximately 25%. MetalCardBot maintained its top position in the domestic boys’ toy market, with first-half sales jumping about 65% year-on-year and cumulative sales in China surpassing 11.8 million units.
The company’s financial structure has also notably improved. By the end of the first half, the debt ratio had fallen to 45.1%, down from 216.2% at the end of 2024 and 62.7% at the end of last year. All convertible bonds were cleared in the second quarter, and total interest-bearing debt fell by about 80% from the end of 2024 to approximately 4.9 billion won. The ratio of interest-bearing debt to equity also dropped to 5.8%.
Over the medium and long term, the company is accelerating its global content business expansion as well. SAMG Entertainment has signed a joint production contract with SM Entertainment for the global family animation 'Super Hero Idol Project,' which has a total production budget of 10 billion won. Under the agreement, SAMG Entertainment will be responsible for 3D animation production and character development, while SM Entertainment will handle music and choreography. The two companies plan to publicly unveil key project details in 2027 and release the series on global over-the-top (OTT) platforms.
Suhoon Kim, CEO of SAMG Entertainment, stated, "In the first half, we completed normalization of our capital structure and reinvested our strengthened financial capacity into new IPs and business category expansion. The scope and sustainability of the profits generated from a single hit IP will now be very different, given the value chain we have established spanning production, distribution, licensing, and platforms,” he said.
