The Office of the President stated on the 13th that regarding the government's ongoing "selective conscription system," "The policy will be implemented starting next year. Based on the initial operational results, it will be revised and supplemented as needed going forward."
Kang Yoo-jung, Chief Presidential Spokesperson, announced this during a briefing at Chunchugwan in the afternoon, saying, "Today, during a senior secretary meeting presided over by President Lee Jaemyung, the selective conscription system was discussed, and the Ministry of National Defense is expected to announce a detailed plan within the year."
Earlier, in his opening remarks at the meeting, President Lee stated, "Due to the persistent low birthrate, it is neither feasible nor desirable to maintain the current inefficient, manpower- and infantry-centric military structure.
