Hanwha Systems and TTA Join Forces to Develop AI-Based Next-Generation Military Communication Network
Development of Next-Generation Tactical Communication Linking Terrestrial and Satellite Networks
Adoption of Global Standards to Boost K-Defense Exports
Joint Development of Integrated Communication Solution 'MOSS'
Hanwha Systems is partnering with the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based 5G tactical communication system. The project aims to build the next-generation military communication network by connecting terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, such as satellites, and to establish a foundation for global defense exports by applying international standards.

Both parties intend to integrate and operate 5G terrestrial networks (TN) and non-terrestrial networks (NTN) using AI technologies, and further plan to incorporate civilian 5G communication technologies into military communication systems.
This collaboration focuses on combining Hanwha Systems' capabilities in military communication system development with TTA's expertise in global communication standardization, testing, and certification.
Hanwha Systems has accumulated military communication technology by handling everything from research and system development to deployment for the Tactical Information Communication Network (TICN), the backbone of Korea's military tactical communication. TTA has established its competencies for over 30 years through standardization of LTE, 5G, and 6G mobile communications, as well as internationally accredited testing and certification.
From the early stages of development, both parties will incorporate 5G and 6G technologies based on international telecommunications standardization organizations (3GPP), as well as NATO communication standards, and will verify compliance. This approach is intended to secure communication compatibility and interoperability required in global markets, thereby strengthening the export competitiveness of Korea’s defense industry.
The two sides will also jointly develop the integrated communication solution ‘MOSS (Modular Open Suite of Standard)’, which supports multi-layer tactical communications for deployment in vehicles and other platforms. MOSS is a technology that integrates mobile tactical 5G base stations, transmission equipment, communication satellite terminals, C4I mission equipment, and more into a single platform.
