Mek ICS Secures Exclusive Rights to Seoul National University Hospital's "Hypoxemia Prediction AI" Technology, Targets Premium Market
Mek ICS (058110) has secured the exclusive rights to Seoul National University Hospital's artificial intelligence (AI) technology for predicting hypoxemia and will integrate AI features into its existing medical devices. The company’s strategy is to target high value-added markets by developing medical devices that alert medical staff to potential risks before a patient's condition deteriorates, rather than simply responding after a warning is triggered.
On August 12, Mek ICS announced that it had signed an exclusive licensing agreement with Seoul National University Hospital for an "AI learning program to predict hypoxemia from vital signs," and held a technology transfer ceremony.
With this agreement, Mek ICS has secured the exclusive implementation rights for the AI technology. The company plans to actively utilize the technology to develop new products and advance commercial applications.
The first products to adopt the technology will be Mek ICS’s core patient monitoring systems and ventilators. The company plans to incorporate vital sign analysis AI into existing devices, enabling healthcare providers to recognize patient risks in advance.
Currently, most medical devices trigger an alarm only after a patient’s blood oxygen saturation drops below a certain threshold. This approach is close to a "post-warning" system, in which the clinical team is alerted only after the patient's condition has already deteriorated.
The newly introduced AI technology focuses on analyzing changes in patients' vital signs in real time to anticipate the likelihood of hypoxemia. It is designed to detect warning signals and alert healthcare providers before actual oxygen levels fall.
This capability allows medical staff to proactively adjust ventilator settings or initiate necessary therapeutic interventions before the patient's condition worsens. The approach emphasizes detecting risks ahead of emergencies, thus securing valuable time for appropriate medical action.
Mek ICS expects this early-warning function will not only enhance clinical response but also contribute to improved patient safety. The company also anticipates that ongoing monitoring supported by AI will reduce the workload and fatigue of medical staff.
The company’s plan is to deploy AI technology in its core medical devices to increase product value and further widen the technological gap with global competitors. This move signals a transition beyond simple medical equipment manufacturing toward the intelligent medical device sector, with a goal of leading the premium market segment.
Mek ICS is also expanding its business centered on AI. The company has signed a business agreement with medical AI specialist DeepMetrics and is strengthening cooperation to develop technology for optimal ventilator operation.
Mek ICS has also made a strategic investment in Reborn Care, a specialist company in AI-driven elderly care services. Leveraging its technical expertise and operational experience, Reborn Care is rapidly expanding its business performance, having secured caregiver management contracts with major private insurance companies.
Mek ICS intends to expand its business foundation in the medical and healthcare AI sector by combining the hypoxemia prediction AI technology received from Seoul National University Hospital, its existing medical device business, collaboration with DeepMetrics, and investment in Reborn Care.
