Regular Resident Tax Imposed for Individuals and Business Establishments
Payment Notices Sent with Calculated Tax Amount for Business Establishments
On August 12, 2026, Muan County in Jeonnam Gwangju Metropolitan City imposed regular resident tax for August on 47,739 cases, totaling 1,065,000,000 won, and urged taxpayers to make payment by the deadline.
The county announced that notices for payment of the regular resident tax for individuals and business establishments have been sent out en masse this month.
Those liable for this resident tax are the heads of households who had their address registered in Muan County as of July 1, the tax base date, as well as individual business owners and corporations with business establishments in the county.
The resident tax for individuals, including the local education tax, is 11,000 won, while the tax for business establishments is levied on individual business owners and corporations, ranging from 55,000 won to 220,000 won depending on conditions.
If the total floor area of the business establishment exceeds 330 square meters, an additional tax rate of 250 won per square meter is applied. In the case of pollutant-emitting business establishments, a tax rate of 500 won per square meter is applied.
In particular, although the resident tax for business establishments has switched to a self-declaration and payment method since 2021, Muan County has sent out payment statements with the calculated tax amount pre-filled in order to reduce inconvenience for taxpayers.
If the details in the payment statement match the actual business status, taxpayers can pay the tax within the deadline without submitting an additional declaration form; the payment will be regarded as having completed both declaration and payment.
The county plans to continuously enhance its tax administration services to make local tax payment more convenient, along with providing guidance for resident tax payments to prevent any disadvantages caused by missing the payment deadline.
