Damon 1177 in Bucheon Central Park Transforms into a Carbon Neutrality Practice Cafe
The cafe "Damon 1177," operated by Bucheon City in Jungang Park (Central Park), will be transformed into a hub for carbon neutrality practices.
On August 12, the city announced that it has teamed up with the social enterprise Sanzero Cooperative to launch the "Green-Fair Cafe Project" in pursuit of carbon neutrality. This project was initiated after a consortium—formed by the city and the cooperative in April—was selected for the "2026 Village Enterprise Regional Specialization Project" by the Gyeonggi Social Economy Center.
The core of the "Green-Fair Cafe Project" is promoting carbon neutrality by encouraging the use of reusable cups. When visitors order drinks to go at "Damon 1177," located in Jungang Park, Jung-dong, Wonmi-gu, they can use a reusable cup instead of a disposable one. By returning the reusable cup to any of the designated return stations in key locations of the park, customers will earn 300 won as part of the Ministry of Environment’s Carbon Neutral Practice Points. Accumulated points can be exchanged for cash.
Cafe "Damon 1177," which opened in March, is a public rest area created by remodeling a former park maintenance building and is operated directly by Bucheon City. "Damon 1177" aims to become a space for value-driven consumption that goes beyond environmental protection. The cafe uses fair trade coffee beans, offers related products, and introduces a range of new herbal tea menu items, providing customers with a wide array of choices.
To celebrate the official launch of the project, Sanzero Cooperative will hold the "Green-Fair Playground" event on August 15 in front of "Damon 1177." The event will offer experiences focused on the value of reusable cups and fair trade. In particular, customers who bring their own reusable cups or personal tumblers will be eligible to participate in a variety of complimentary experience programs when purchasing beverages.
