Expanding Cooperation in AI and Science and Technology
Kazakhstan is moving forward with plans to establish a Science and Technology Institute modeled after the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). South Korea and Kazakhstan have agreed to expand cooperation in science and technology fields, including talent development and artificial intelligence (AI).
On August 12, Background Hoon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, met with Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, who is currently visiting Korea, in Seoul to discuss cooperation measures in AI and science and technology sectors.

View original imageThe two sides particularly discussed collaborative approaches to the 'Kazakhstan Institute of Science and Technology' project, which is being benchmarked after KAIST. Deputy Prime Minister Background Hoon shared Korea's experience of significantly investing in nurturing science and technology talent to enhance the nation's science and technology competitiveness, and discussed bilateral cooperation measures for establishing the new institute.
Kazakhstan is expanding AI innovation and international cooperation to advance its industries. Both parties agreed to flesh out their AI and science and technology cooperation, building on each country's strengths, on the occasion of the 1st Korea-Central Asia Summit, scheduled to be held in Seoul in September.
