KakaoBank Union Launches Compliance Action: "No Night, Overtime, or Holiday Shifts"

The Kakao Chapter of the Korean Federation of Chemical, Textile, Food Industry Workers’ Unions (Kakao Chapter) began a compliance action on August 12, refusing to work night shifts, overtime, and holidays at KakaoBank.
The Kakao Chapter announced that it launched the compliance action at KakaoBank beginning at midnight on this day.
Members of the Kakao Chapter participating in the action will work only within the scope that does not exceed an average of 40 hours per week when calculated by monthly working hours. They will not take part in night shifts, overtime, or holiday work.
After working hours, they will not comply with instructions given via phone or messenger, will not respond to urgent incident handling outside the scope of collective bargaining, and will not act upon immediate intervention requests. However, members will perform their assigned work during designated working hours as usual, and will comply with essential safety, security, and review procedures necessary for work.
The Kakao Chapter maintains that stable financial service operations should not be premised on some members' extended working hours, being on standby after work, or personal sacrifices. In particular, it emphasizes that the company is responsible for ensuring service continuity and establishing incident response systems by providing adequate staffing and appropriate work systems.
The Kakao Chapter stated it would respond firmly to any attempts by the company to distort the intent of the compliance action, to check whether individual members are participating, or to cajole, pressure, or disadvantage union members.
