HD Construction Equipment Achieves Highest Zero Waste to Landfill Certification for Second Consecutive Year
Highest Certification from Global Environmental Organization
Resource Recovery Initiatives Tailored to Waste Types, Including Casting Sand, Waste Synthetic Resin, Dust, and Cutting Oil
HD Construction Equipment's Incheon Campus announced on August 12 that it has received the highest-level Platinum certification for Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) from the global safety and environmental certification body UL Solutions for the second consecutive year.
The Zero Waste to Landfill certification is an international standard that assesses resource circulation capabilities by verifying how waste generated at a site is processed through recycling and energy recovery. Depending on the recycling rate, ratings are awarded as Platinum (100%), Gold (95-99%), and Silver (90-94%).
HD Construction Equipment's Incheon Campus has achieved Gold certification for four consecutive years since 2021 and last year became the first in the construction equipment industry to reach a recycling rate of 99.54%, earning the Platinum rating.
HD Construction Equipment is developing various resource recovery methods tailored to the characteristics of each waste type. As examples, casting sand used in molding products is processed separately and recycled as raw material, and dust generated from processing is also reused. Waste synthetic resin and waste wood are shredded and converted into solid fuel, while cutting oil used in metalworking is purified for reuse.
Additionally, to reduce packaging waste generated during the material delivery process, the company is replacing traditional wooden pallets and cardboard boxes with steel pallets and reusable plastic boxes (Danpla), and it is operating a resource circulation system that collects and reuses the packaging materials. HD Construction Equipment has also developed biodegradable lubricants suitable for hydraulic units and engines in construction equipment to reduce the environmental load at the end of the product life cycle, and is currently conducting performance verification to apply recycled parts containing 20-30% recycled materials to both internal and external product components.
