Yongsan District Signs Agreement to Prevent Child Abuse in Multicultural Families
Public, District Office, and Police Sign MOU
Establishing an Integrated Support System
Yongsan District in Seoul (District Mayor Kim Kyung-Dae) announced on the 12th that a memorandum of understanding to prevent child abuse in multicultural families was signed with local related organizations at Yongsan Police Station on the 11th.
This agreement was promoted to establish a comprehensive community support system by linking preventive education and welfare resources, with the aim of alleviating family conflicts in multicultural households and preventing recurrences of child abuse. The district explained that, after reviewing trends in the increase of multicultural families and reported child abuse cases in the region, it had determined that a collaborative system encompassing education, welfare, and psychological support was needed, leading to the preparation of this agreement.
Six organizations participated in the signing ceremony, including Yongsan District Office, Yongsan Police Station (headed by Choi Jongyun), Sookmyung Women's University Institute for Future Education (Director Seo Yonggu), Jungbu District Office of Education (Superintendent Choi Dogyu), Jungbu Child Protection Agency (Director Lim Yongsun), and Galwol Community Welfare Center (Director Lee Hyeonghun).
According to the agreement, each organization decided to implement public support linkages such as emergency welfare and basic livelihood security for vulnerable households, to identify and support high-risk multicultural families at risk of child abuse, to support Korean language education for parents, to provide parent education for child abuse prevention and psychological support, as well as to operate related programs and conduct case management.

District Mayor Kim Kyung-Dae stated, "Through a community cooperation system that reflects the unique characteristics of multicultural families, we will ensure that children can grow up in an even safer environment," adding, "We will continue to work closely with related agencies to provide practical and tangible support."
