"More Like an IT Company"…AI Becomes Routine at Hyundai Motor Group
Euisun Chung Commits to Data-Driven Management
Company-Wide DX and AX Launched Since 2019
Announces Achievements at Yangjae Headquarters on the 12th
80% of Employees Leveraging AI, Boosting Efficiency
"Striving to Become the World’s Top Company in AI Utilization"
"We will become a company more like an IT company than actual IT companies."
This declaration was made by Euisun Chung, Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, in 2018, expressing the group's commitment to establishing a global collaboration culture and data-driven management system. Since then, Hyundai Motor Group has been preparing for a company-wide digital transformation (DX) and AI transformation (AX) since 2019, and on the 12th, it announced the results of those efforts.
During the 'Hyundai Motor Group AX Performance Presentation (Beyond AI, Transforming the Way We Work)' held on the same day at the headquarters in Yangjae, Seocho-gu, Seoul, the group revealed the journey of its DX and AX initiatives as well as its future plans.
The core of Hyundai Motor Group's DX was not simply replacing work systems but innovating the way employees work. For this, it was essential to create an environment where information and data could be freely shared and utilized between organizations.
To achieve this, Hyundai Motor Group introduced platforms such as ▲JIRA and ▲Dooray, which facilitate systematic management of work progress and decision-making, and ▲Confluence, which supports collaborative document editing and knowledge sharing, beginning sequential adoption in 2022.
With these platforms in place, employees have been able to check company-wide work progress and the status of major projects more quickly, while transparency in collaboration and information sharing across teams has been significantly enhanced.
In the field of data, the group established a 'Global One Data Pipeline,' standardizing and connecting data that had previously been scattered across the entire value chain, including research and development, manufacturing, quality control, and sales.
As a result, information generated during the development process is now used in manufacturing and quality management, whereas data collected from the sales frontlines is then fed back into product development and process improvement, creating a virtuous data cycle.
80% of Employees Leveraging AI … Active Sharing of AI Use Cases
A representative example of Hyundai Motor Group's AX is its in-house generative AI platform, 'H Chat Pro.'
H Chat Pro is Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated AI platform that allows employees to choose and utilize various external generative AI models—such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude—in a secure environment.
Since 2025, Hyundai Motor Group has made H Chat Pro available to all employees, not limited to specific departments or a select group. As of last month, more than 30,000 employees had used H Chat Pro, accounting for about 80% of white-collar and research personnel at Hyundai Motor Company and Kia.
Furthermore, the group is providing ongoing AX education for employees at all levels, including executives. Through internal communities and various councils, it actively encourages the sharing of AI usage experiences among staff.
AI Boosts Research & Manufacturing Efficiency … Service Time Reduced by 42%, Satisfaction Up
During the event, key cases were presented in which the application of AI across research, production, and service divisions boosted work productivity and cost efficiency.
The 'Crash Safety AI Assistant' is an AI-powered R&D system that enables integrated searches of research information—such as previous crash test results, images, and analyses—which had previously been scattered across different systems. It allows users to swiftly locate, compare, and analyze similar cases.

However, much of this information was scattered in multiple systems or dependent on engineers’ individual knowledge, making it time-consuming to access the required data.
Hyundai Motor Group connected research information through AI, building an environment where engineers could do more than just look up materials—they can now analyze and refer to test conditions, vehicle structures, causes of injuries, and improvement measures of similar crash cases.
This has allowed engineers to cut the time spent searching and analyzing cases by about 90%, enabling them to use the saved time on interpreting analysis outcomes, improving designs, and developing test strategies—high-value tasks.
There are also examples of improving efficiency in quality management and production operations using AI.
The 'AI Automated Recognition Service' is a vision AI-based solution that uses vehicle identification numbers (VIN) to match vehicles entering the production process with those registered in the system in real time.
Previously, workers had to manually check vehicle information by eye or compare with system records. Now, cameras and AI image recognition technology automatically read the VIN and immediately cross-reference actual vehicle data with the system, in real time.
This enables early detection and response to work errors, and across Hyundai Motor Company and Kia's plants in Korea and worldwide, it has resulted in an annual cost reduction of KRW 5.24 billion.
AI has also increased global customer service satisfaction.
At overseas service sites, a large language model (LLM)-based 'Maintenance Support AI Service' enables mechanics to quickly find root causes and solutions without manually searching through complex maintenance manuals and technical documents.
By entering error codes or symptoms in natural language, the AI analyzes related manuals and past service records to provide optimal diagnostic results, reducing maintenance response time by approximately 42%.
"Becoming the Best in AI Utilization Worldwide"
Hyundai Motor Group plans to build on its accumulated data assets, operational experience, and AI capabilities to extend innovation into the realm of "Physical AI"—where AI merges with the physical world, such as vehicles, robotics, production, and service sites.
Jin Eunsuk, President of ICT at Hyundai Motor Company and Kia, stated, "Our goal is not simply to be the company that uses AI the most, but to become the company that utilizes AI most effectively and appropriately worldwide," adding, "We will further strengthen our ability to learn new technologies quickly and apply them in the field, turning them into customer value and business results."
