Cheonhyu Park of "Maybe Happy Ending" Signs Exclusive Contract with Prain TPC
Chunhyu Park, the writer who won six Tony Awards in the United States for the musical "Maybe Happy Ending," has signed an exclusive contract with Prain TPC.
On August 11, Prain TPC announced, "We have signed an exclusive contract with musical writer Chunhyu Park," adding, "We will continue to support him so that he can pursue meaningful creative activities in the future."
Chunhyu Park has written scripts and lyrics for musicals such as "Bungee Jump," "Maybe Happy Ending," "Il Tenore," and "Ghost Bakery." In some of these productions, he also took on the role of director.
He received the Best Composition and Lyrics Award at "The Musical Awards" in 2013 for "Bungee Jump." At the 2018 Korea Musical Awards, he won the Best Script and Lyrics Award for "Maybe Happy Ending," and last year, he received the Grand Prize at the Korea Musical Awards for "Il Tenore."
"Maybe Happy Ending," for which Chunhyu Park wrote the script and lyrics, was nominated in ten categories at the Tony Awards on Broadway in the United States last year. The musical won in six categories, including Best Musical, Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Direction, Best Leading Actor, and Best Set Design. This marked the first time that an original musical created by a Korean creator received a Tony Award.
Set in the near future, "Maybe Happy Ending" tells the story of two robots who were abandoned after being created to assist humans. The production was first performed in Korea before making its way to the United States.
