"The Answer Lies On Site"... Geochang County Chief Hongki Lee Inspects Major Facilities
Reviewing Management Status Across Community Facilities, Environmental, and Waterworks Sectors
Hongki Lee, head of Geochang County, has been conducting inspections of major facilities directly managed or outsourced by Geochang County in South Gyeongsang Province since August 10, personally checking their operations and management status.
This on-site inspection was arranged to directly review the operational conditions and management status of each facility, to identify issues and areas for improvement raised in the field, and to incorporate these findings into the 2027 work plan development process.
On the first day, August 10, site inspections focused mainly on key facilities related to living environment, water quality, and water resource management.

At the municipal solid waste incineration facility, he checked the waste processing procedures and current facility operations, confirming what is required for stable operation and safety management. The recycling sorting facility was inspected for its processes in sorting and processing recyclables, as well as for its overall management status.
In the case of the livestock manure treatment facility and the public sewage treatment facility, Lee reviewed the current operations and water quality management, as well as the overall management of these key environmental infrastructures.
In response to recent drought conditions, Lee also inspected the Geochang water intake and purification plants to assess the status of raw water procurement and water supply. Geochang County recognizes that if the drought continues, it could impact the stable supply of tap water, and so it is placing importance on the management of water intake sources and supply facilities, verifying how the situation is being handled.
During a senior staff meeting that day, Lee emphasized the necessity of efficient water management and ensuring stable water supply to cope with the drought. He instructed that, at both the water intake and purification plants, relevant agencies such as the Korea Rural Community Corporation collaborate to secure raw water, and that inspections and management of water supply facilities proceed without fail.
At the Geochang River Environment Education Center, Lee reviewed the facility’s status regarding environmental education and climate change response. He specifically highlighted the possibility of running educational programs linked to environmental infrastructure facilities such as the Resource Circulation Center, and stated the need for a comprehensive review to establish an educational system integrating climate change, resource circulation, and the ecological environment.
Geochang County plans to continue facility site inspections not only in environmental and waterworks sectors but also at major sites in fields including youth, agriculture, culture, and welfare.
On August 11, Lee visited Wolseong Youth Training Center, the Geochang Wolseong Space and Science Museum, and the Geochang National Leisure Camping Site to check their operational and management status. For youth-related facilities, he reviewed their usage status, program operations, and facility management, and plans to consider areas requiring future improvement.
Following these, Lee will sequentially visit major facilities in agriculture, culture, welfare, and other areas to review operational status and gather on-site feedback, with the intention of reflecting the results of these inspections in the 2027 work plan.
In particular, this round of on-site inspections is not limited to confirming the operational situation of each facility. The focus is also on identifying the actual usage, management issues, facility improvement needs, and matters related to budgets and project implementation, in order to reflect them in future work plans.
Geochang County plans to have each department review the areas for improvement identified during these on-site visits, comprehensively examining priorities and project feasibility, and then incorporate them into next year’s work plan.

Geochang County will continue on-site inspections of major facilities in each sector, systematically reviewing operational efficiency, user convenience, safety management, and environmental management, with plans to specify the direction for county government administration in the coming year.

The on-site inspections of major facilities led by Lee are significant in that they form the foundation for the 2027 work plan based on field-oriented feedback. The important factor is not simply making visits, but actually reflecting on-site problems and improvement requests in budgets and projects. In particular, specific follow-up measures are required in areas directly affecting residents’ livelihoods, such as drought response and environmental facilities.
