Efforts are being strengthened in response to ongoing concerns about drought due to persistent lack of rainfall.
Uiryeong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced that, with rising concerns of drought, it has begun activities to secure agricultural water and prevent crop damage, including the utilization of available water pumps, use of river water, and consideration of installing temporary weirs.
Uiryeong County Governor Oh Taewan canceled his scheduled vacation to personally visit Yugok-myeon and Gyungryu-myeon on August 11, where he inspected the drought response measures and the actual conditions of agricultural water supply.
He also visited workplaces currently facing heatwaves to examine the state of on-site safety management.

The county plans to continuously monitor the agricultural water supply status and the occurrence of crop damage in each town and township, and will focus on implementing measures to secure and supply water in regions particularly at risk of drought.
At the drought response site in Apgok-ri, Gyungryu-myeon, Governor Oh checked the condition of crop growth and the status of water supply, and listened to local residents’ concerns.
At the site, measures to prepare for a prolonged drought were reviewed, including supplying water by utilizing river water, deploying available water pumps, and assessing the feasibility of securing additional water by installing temporary weirs.
Subsequently, he visited Byeokgye Reservoir in Gyungryu-myeon to confirm the current water storage rate and agricultural water supply status, urging thorough management to ensure the stable supply of agricultural water in preparation for an extended drought.
Governor Oh Taewan stated, "To minimize drought damage, it is important to proactively monitor the agricultural water supply and promptly implement the necessary countermeasures," adding, "We will conduct frequent on-site inspections and make the most of available equipment and water resources to minimize crop losses."
