Four Heat-Related Deaths in Incheon This Year... Three Fatalities Last Weekend
Three people lost their lives in Incheon last weekend due to heat-related illnesses, as a heat wave warning was in effect.
According to Incheon city on August 11, at around 10:05 p.m. on August 8, a family member reported to emergency services that a woman identified as A (69) had collapsed at her home in Yeonsu District. When paramedics arrived, her body temperature had risen to 41 degrees Celsius. She was transported to the hospital but died within an hour of the emergency call.
On the same day, a man identified as B (35) was taken to the hospital in a comatose state with a high fever after hiking with his father in the morning and later passed away. Also, at approximately 12:35 p.m. that day, a man in his 50s was found unconscious on the stairs of a building in Gyeyang District and taken to the hospital after being reported by a passerby but died the next day.
Based on assessments from hospital medical staff, Incheon city believes their deaths were caused by heatstroke and is investigating the specific circumstances.

On August 8, when these heat illness emergencies were reported, Incheon was under a heat wave warning. The highest temperature reached 37.5 degrees Celsius, and the highest perceived temperature was 36 degrees Celsius. Between May 15 and August 11, the total number of heat-related deaths in Incheon stands at four, including a man in his 40s who died on August 3.
