This visit was organized after the launch of the ninth popularly elected administration, with the aim of hearing directly from key research institutions in advanced strategic industries and reinforcing cooperation frameworks for fostering the semiconductor sector.
Mayor Seong held a meeting with Yoon Jong-seok, President of the Korea Institute of Ceramic Technology, and Han Yoon-soo, Head of the Icheon branch, where he was briefed on the institute’s main projects and research achievements. He then toured major facilities such as the clean room and test & evaluation equipment at the Semiconductor Solution Center to inspect the status of R&D support.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the operational achievements and future plans for the Semiconductor Total Solution Center, which Icheon City has commissioned to the Korea Institute of Ceramic Technology. Participants exchanged views on ways to expand technological support for semiconductor companies in the region and scale up programs for fostering professional talent.
The Semiconductor Total Solution Center serves as a key hub for semiconductor education, technology support, and industry-academia-research cooperation within the local industry. Icheon City is carrying out a range of initiatives, including autonomous research programs in partnership with Korea University and Sogang University, semiconductor education for students, and technology development support projects for companies specializing in materials, components, and equipment.
Mayor Seong stated, "For Icheon, the core city of Korea's semiconductor industry, to achieve continued growth, close cooperation among research institutions, companies, and local governments is essential. We will further strengthen collaboration with the Korea Institute of Ceramic Technology to expand the technical support and professional training foundation required by businesses, and actively provide administrative support in creating a robust semiconductor industry ecosystem."
Yoon Jong-seok, President of the Korea Institute of Ceramic Technology, remarked, "We will do our utmost to contribute to technological innovation and enhanced competitiveness for local semiconductor companies through close cooperation with Icheon City. We will continue to expand our R&D and support for companies in the semiconductor materials, components, and equipment sectors."
