Cinemas Now Becoming 'Spaces for Reading'
Lotte Cinema and Kyobo Bookstore Collaboration
From Cinematic Class to Cine Museum
Lotte Cinema announced on August 11 that it will collaborate with Kyobo Bookstore to launch a cultural partnership making use of its theater spaces. In line with the rise of the so-called 'Text Hip' culture, in which people enjoy and read texts, Lotte Cinema will expand its auditoriums into venues for experiencing humanities and cultural content.
The first initiative will be Kyobo Bookstore's book lecture community 'VORA'. On September 9, writer Mikyung Kim will hold a lecture, followed by a session from writer Kilyoung Song in November.
The program most closely linked to the cinema itself is the 'Cinematic Class.' In particular, Sim Yonghwan's docent series 'The History of Mythology,' designed to accompany screenings of director Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey,' sold out on August 8.
Seojun Lee's docent program 'Stories of France Enjoyed Like a Banquet' is also noteworthy. This series, which interprets French history, art, and travel through the metaphor of a multi-course meal, will take place three times, beginning August 11.
European art museums are also featured. On September 5, docent Chaesuhan will introduce the Vatican Museums, followed by docent Baek Inpil introducing the Prado Museum on September 19.
