Targeting the Global Power Market with Eco-Friendly Materials
Hanwha Solutions has completed customer validation for its power cable material that uses 50% recycled raw materials to reduce carbon emissions and is now moving forward with commercialization.
On August 11, Hanwha Solutions announced that it has completed production tests and quality verification for "CHBA-8241RC," a high-density polyethylene (HDPE)-based power cable jacket material containing 50% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic.
CHBA-8241RC is an eco-friendly composite material independently developed by Hanwha Solutions. The product reduces carbon emissions per kilogram by approximately 34% compared to existing products, while maintaining electrical properties and processing performance at levels equivalent to current materials.
Hanwha Solutions carried out product development and pilot production in 2025, followed by production testing and quality verification for cable manufacturers in the first half of this year. With this commercialization, the company plans to expand its range of power cable materials from extra-high voltage cable insulation to eco-friendly outer jacket materials.
Carl Scarlata, Head of Hanwha Solutions Wire & Cable (W&C) Division, said, "By providing cable materials based on recycled raw materials, we will help our customers produce low-carbon power cables and strengthen our competitiveness in the global power infrastructure market."

Hanwha Solutions has obtained certifications such as the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) and International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC PLUS) for its recycled polyethylene (rPE) made from waste plastics. The company has applied this material to electronics packaging, cosmetic containers, and industrial packaging bags, and is now expanding its application to power cable materials.
