Tongyang Accelerates AIDC Business... "Expanding High-Profit Development Projects"
The Artificial Intelligence Data Center (AIDC) business, which Tongyang is pursuing as a new venture, is gaining momentum.
On August 11, Tongyang announced that it had entered the AIDC business based on its experience in developing projects using idle land in the greater Seoul area, as well as its group network and financing capabilities. The first AIDC project, the ‘Bucheon Samjeong Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub Center,’ broke ground in May and is progressing smoothly. This center will incorporate the latest liquid cooling solutions and will be built with a total electricity capacity of 9.8 megawatts and an IT load of 7 megawatts. The second project, the ‘Incheon Guwol AI Hub Center,’ is also being prepared with the goal of breaking ground within this year. All administrative procedures and construction permits have already been completed, making groundbreaking within the year feasible.
The company is also pursuing three additional AIDC projects in the greater Seoul area. The most critical requirement for AIDC construction and operations—power capacity—has already been secured, and the company plans to accelerate its efforts by leveraging the experience gained from the first and second projects. All five AIDCs will be differentiated as urban-type and AI inference-type data centers, taking advantage of their strategic locations in high-demand regions and the application of the latest technologies.
Tongyang is not only focusing on the construction and establishment of AIDCs, but is also working to secure the ability to comprehensively manage all stages of the data center business, including planning, design, construction, and operations. The company plans to build internal capabilities necessary for the success of the AIDC business by recruiting external experts and training internal personnel.
Once the planned AIDCs are completed and enter sequential operation, the development business is expected to grow into a core business of the company alongside the existing building materials division. The asset value of the AIDCs scheduled for completion within the next three years is expected to reach approximately 1 trillion won.
