LK Samyang to Supply 'Domestic Camera Modules' for Ministry of National Defense Drone Project
LK Samyang will supply camera modules for the Ministry of National Defense's drone project.
According to LK Samyang on August 11, the end customers are among the three final winning bidders in this project: Airux, a publicly listed drone full-stack company, and AD System, a defense company specializing in small stealth unmanned aerial vehicles. LK Samyang plans to supply drone camera modules based on its proprietary technology developed in-house.
The product to be supplied this time is an integrated camera module solution that combines LK Samyang's wide-angle lens technology with an image sensor and video processing board. This represents a meaningful expansion beyond their existing single lens-focused business structure into a high value-added module business.
LK Samyang has continuously invested in research and development in leading industrial optical fields such as autonomous driving, aerospace, and drones. Building on its accumulated technical expertise from supplying aerial photography lenses to overseas drone manufacturers through ODM production, the company will now supply the defense project with an integrated camera module that includes not only lenses but also image sensors and video processing boards.
In particular, the domestic market for drone camera and lens modules has been regarded as an area with extremely high reliance on overseas suppliers. LK Samyang has developed full HD camera modules that localize not only core parts but also wide-angle lens design technology. Through this innovation, the company is expected to contribute to stabilizing the domestic drone supply chain and localizing key components.
