Geostory Advances Dam Sedimentation Analysis Technology
Geostory has advanced dam sedimentation volume analysis technology through high-precision 3D terrain modeling and sedimentation analysis technology.
According to Geostory on August 11, accurately identifying the sedimentation volume—which directly affects the storage capacity and lifespan of a dam—requires sophisticated technology to precisely survey the complex terrain beneath the water surface.
To overcome the limitations of conventional underwater survey equipment such as multibeam echo sounders (MBES), Geostory has developed specialized capabilities by actively integrating its proprietary airborne bathymetric lidar (ALB) technology. This approach minimizes data gaps that inevitably occur at the boundary between water and land in traditional survey methods, enabling the seamless construction of an integrated 3D terrain model that perfectly connects shoreline topography above water with underwater terrain without discontinuity or error.
Based on this high-precision 3D data, Geostory is able to precisely estimate sedimentation volume and track topographical changes, offering analytical capabilities that allow for the clear detection and visualization of subtle underwater sedimentation and scour phenomena that are difficult to confirm visually.
Geostory’s proprietary data acquisition, integrated data processing, and analysis technology have reduced measurement error rates at the water surface boundary and are recognized as core technologies that provide objective and scientific decision-making metrics for dam maintenance and disaster prevention.
