Sejong and Munjong's Dessert Tables to Be Served at Gyeongbokgung Palace
Second Half “Saenggwanbang” Program
Korean Traditional Music Performances on Chuseok and Hangul Day
The Royal Palaces and Tombs Center and the National Heritage Promotion Agency will operate the second half of this year's “Gyeongbokgung Saenggwanbang” from September 2 to October 26.
This program offers visitors the chance to enjoy the atmosphere of Gyeongbokgung Palace by tasting a traditional dessert set, which includes six types of royal sweets and one kind of medicinal palace tea, recreated in the “Saenggwanbang”—the royal kitchen where special foods for the Joseon Dynasty royal family were prepared.
Following the positive response during the first half of the year featuring stories of King Yeongjo and King Sukjong, the program will introduce two themed dessert tables in the second half, centered on the narratives of “genius father-and-son pairs in the Joseon royal family.”
“Sejong’s Dessert Table,” depicting King Sejong’s life devoted to academics and health practice, is composed of royal medicinal rice cake Guseonwangdogou and traditional pastries Yullan and Joran made of chestnuts and jujube, among others. “Munjong’s Dessert Table,” dedicated to filial piety for his father, offers refined delicacies such as cherry jelly Angdu Gwapyun and simmered pear Bae Jeongwa. Each dessert table comes with a “Letter from the Royal Chef,” helping guests understand the story behind the sweets.
