KOSPI Closes Firm on Institutional and Retail Buying; KOSDAQ Surges Over 6%
The KOSPI closed higher, supported by net purchases from institutional and individual investors. The KOSDAQ index surged by over 6%.
On August 10, the KOSPI finished at 6,299.66, up 40.89 points (0.65%) from the previous day. The trading volume was 290.91 million shares, and the trading value was provisionally tallied at 18.8401 trillion won.
By investor type, institutions and individuals recorded net purchases of 567.3 billion won and 899.8 billion won, respectively, while foreigners recorded net sales of 1.4936 trillion won. In the futures market, institutions recorded net sales of 604 billion won, while foreigners and individuals recorded net purchases of 428.7 billion won and 227 billion won, respectively. In program trading, there was a net purchase of 174 billion won in arbitrage trading, but a net sale of 1.5418 trillion won in non-arbitrage trading.
There were mixed performances by sector. Medical precision rose by 7.19%, metals by 6.46%, machinery and equipment by 4.57%, securities by 4.42%, transportation equipment by 3.14%, construction by 2.05%, general services by 1.61%, pharmaceuticals by 1.19%, non-metals by 1.02%, and real estate by 0.97%. On the other hand, telecommunications fell by 2.33%, transportation and storage by 1.57%, food, beverage, and tobacco by 0.73%, and entertainment and culture by 0.66%.
Among large-cap stocks, most closed higher. SK Square rose by 1.06%, LG Energy Solution by 2.08%, Hyundai Motor by 3.16%, Samsung Biologics by 0.84%, Hanwha Aerospace by 5.01%, Samsung Life Insurance by 1.81%, and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries by 5.14%. In contrast, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix fell by 0.43% and 0.14%, respectively, while Samsung Electro-Mechanics decreased by 0.31% and KB Financial Group by 2.33%.
Provisional figures show that 697 stocks rose, 183 fell, and 31 remained unchanged for the day.
The KOSDAQ index posted a sharp surge of more than 6%. On this day, the KOSDAQ closed at 854.47, up 55.66 points (6.97%) from the previous session. By investor type, institutions and foreigners recorded net purchases of 566.1 billion won and 105.5 billion won, respectively, while individuals recorded net sales of 672.9 billion won.
Among the top KOSDAQ stocks, most saw gains. Alteogen soared by 14.1%, Ecopro by 8.72%, Ecopro BM by 7.29%, Rainbow Robotics by 5.16%, Jusung Engineering by 13.3%, HLB by 9.12%, LIG Nex1 by 7.61%, ABL Bio by 8.08%, Wonik IPS by 11.44%, Legochem Biosciences by 5.92%, Samchundang Pharm by 14.63%, EO Technics by 10.02%, Simmtech by 5.36%, Peptron by 0.72%, and PharmaResearch by 8.32%.
